This is my personal website. Like most sites, it collects a small amount of standard information to understand how it is used and to keep it secure.
Technical data your browser sends automatically — your IP address, approximate location (city and country) and network, and your device and browser type.
How the site is used — which pages you visit and basic interactions, along with a first-party cookie (and a matching random identifier kept in your browser's local storage) that lets me recognize return visits. I also record which outbound links, such as a paper or a code repository, get clicked, roughly how long each part of a page was on screen, and the approximate postal code that Cloudflare reports for your connection.
Links I share directly. When I email someone a link to this site, it may be a short link unique to that message, so I can tell whether it was opened and what was read. It identifies the link, not you; if it is forwarded, I cannot tell who opened it.
Messages you send me. If you use the contact form, I store what you type (your name, email address and message) together with the technical data above, so that I can reply. Nothing is shared with anyone else.
I use this only to understand traffic and improve the site. I do not sell it, and I do not use it for advertising. The site runs on Cloudflare, which processes this data on my behalf to deliver and secure the site. I keep it for a limited time and then delete it.
If you would like to know what is stored about you, or want it removed, email me at vejonnak@utmb.edu. You can also block cookies in your browser settings; the site works fine without them.
